The end of a busy, exciting year is fast approaching!
Tue Dec 20, 2016
Just 12 months ago the plan to build an entirely new Central Business District for the Sunshine Coast only existed on paper but, in the course of 2016, we have taken big steps towards making that plan a reality.
The layout of the core CBD – where the new streets, buildings and a civic park will be built in the first stage of the new Maroochydore City Centre
– is now clearly visible, as you can see from the photo above.
Next year, with our principal engineering consultants Cardno, SunCentral will oversee civil construction on the first stage of the project. Roads, waterways and vital infrastructure will be built and we are assessing tenders for that work right now.
I am thrilled to see the foundations of the new city centre being laid and developments off-site have been just as exciting.
Mayor Mark Jamieson applauded the project’s progress in his State of the Region speech earlier this month and he has every right to be pleased. As the Mayor stated, confidence in the Sunshine Coast’s future is growing by the month.
The new CBD is certainly helping to drive the strong national and international interest in the region.
Since we began seeking Expressions of Interest in June, SunCentral has received many exciting responses from the private sector.
We are currently considering submissions proposing commercial and mixed use building projects with a construction cost of over $400 million and look forward to successful contract announcements next year.
Meanwhile, discussions are continuing with a number of other potential project partners and Australia’s business community is clearly backing the vision for the new Maroochydore CBD.
SunCentral is also in talks with the tertiary education sector, with the aim of securing teaching and student accommodation facilities in the first stage of the new Maroochydore City Centre.
Young people are our future and I want their energy and optimism to be at the heart of the new Maroochydore CBD.
2016 has been a terrific year for the project and you can watch a short video with some of the highlights at http://maroochydore- city.com.au/2016-year-review.
