Maroochydore City Centre breaks new ground

Fri Jul 29, 2016

We’ve made enormous progress since the first sod was turned on the new Maroochydore City Centre in February and the momentum around this unique project continues to build.

As you may know, we launched the project to market last month with investors, developers and business owners invited to submit Expressions of Interest in the core commercial precincts of the new CBD.

Just days after our launch, the latest NAB Monthly Business Survey revealed that Queensland had the equal highest level of business confidence in the nation, making the case for locating and growing an enterprise or company on the Sunshine Coast even more compelling.

We have been pleased with the response from the market to date and planning is underway for campaigns to target specific businesses to locate to the new city centre.

We have also appointed technology executive Zach Johnson (pictured, above left, with me) as the project’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence. We are proud to be the first city development in Australia to create this role and believe it reflects our commitment to developing a genuine city of the future.

Our aim is to make Maroochydore a nationally renowned centre for start-ups and achieving that goal will require innovative thinking and technological experience.

Zach’s position will help us maximise opportunities for entrepreneurship, attract the brightest commercial minds to the new CBD and explain how businesses will be able to thrive in our digitally-advanced city.

Start-ups and entrepreneurs will bring new skills, experience and connections to the Sunshine Coast, diversifying our economy and creating jobs. They are central to our vision.

Many people in the business community will already know Zach as the founder of Maroochydore’s Spark Bureau and be familiar with the impressive results the business incubator has achieved.

On site, bulk earthworks are continuing and civil works, including the installation of underground infrastructure and building great city streets, parks and a striking new waterway, will commence in coming months.

I look forward to providing you with further updates as the new city centre takes shape and thank you for your ongoing interest in this exciting project.
