Delivering a vibrant city heart
Thu Mar 31, 2016
Work on Maroochydore’s new central business district is well and truly underway with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk turning the first sod last month and bulk earthworks starting on site immediately afterwards.
We have been working hard to translate the vision for a vibrant, modern city centre into reality. To that end, we have commissioned acclaimed landscape architect Mark Fuller – who was behind Brisbane’s South Bank and Roma Street Parklands – to assist in developing designs for the new city centre’s parks, streets and public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
The project will transform the site into a high quality CBD, providing entertainment, employment and recreation opportunities at your doorstep.
To achieve these outcomes, local company Shadforths Civil Contractors must carry out bulk earthworks including relocating an underground high-voltage power line, upgrading a sewer main and removing vegetation, most of which was planted by the former golf club to designate the fairways.
Although the planned works will have no detrimental impact on any protected flora or fauna, Shadforths has implemented a works management plan which is being overseen by internationally renowned consulting firm Cardno.
An external specialist fauna spotter/catcher will also be on site over the next few weeks as the works proceed.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience as we build the Sunshine Coast’s new central business district.
The project will bring significant benefits to our community, creating an estimated 15,000 jobs by 2025 and providing a $4.4 billion boost for the local economy.

I look forward to providing you with further updates as the new city centre continues to take shape and wish you and your family a happy, safe Easter break.
