New City Centre Taking Shape
Fri Jan 29, 2016
SunCentral Maroochydore has made great progress on planning and designing your expanded city centre and preliminary construction on the first stage of the 53-hectare project is about to begin.
The new Maroochydore CBD will become the business, community services and employment focus for our region, while 40 per cent of the former golf course will be parkland, open space and waterways for everyone to enjoy.
Very soon, bulk earthworks will begin on 15 hectares of the site north of the Maud Street Canal. This will be followed by civil works, with construction of new quality streets, parkland and public spaces.
Work will only occur between 7.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday and our contractors will be required to implement a site management plan to minimise any disruption or inconvenience to local residents and businesses.
This will include measures to control noise, dust, erosion and ensure appropriate environmental protections are in place.
The SunCentral site was cleared of remnant vegetation when the golf course was built back in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Recent expert, independent surveys have confirmed that this development will not impact on any protected flora or fauna species.
The earthworks starting in February will include removing trees that were planted to decorate the golf course fairways.
This cleared vegetation will be mulched and reused on the site.
The new Maroochydore CBD provides a truly exciting opportunity for our region, offering an estimated $4.4 billion boost to the ocal economy and creating about 15,000 jobs by 2025.
